“I am a competitive dancer at The Edge , currently enrolled in ballet, tap, jazz, lyrical, song and dance, modern, jazz technique, and musical theatre.

Our musical theatre class is focused on dance, but it is also focused on acting.  Generally, the songs have a bit of a broad way feel to them,  and it requires you to put yourself into the character’s position, and lip sync along with the song as if you are singing the words. The story itself is portrayed through both dance and acting.

Creative Edge is like a second home to me, because of the amazing people that are within the school. They truly care, about each and every one of their students.

I have only been dancing for 3 years and In this short amount of time I have learned an incredible amount from the teachers.

During the competition season 2009, I was awarded “Most Potential Dancer” and given a “Triple Threat Convention” scholarship. I was picked out of many other dancers. Prior to announcing my name, they had a speech on why this award was deserved.  While listening, I had no idea it was me they were talking about. Yet, out in the audience, my dance teacher knew. She was crying her heart out, she was so proud.

Thanks to everybody at Creative Edge, I have dreams that I am determined to achieve later in life. I never would have gotten as far as I have without them. “

Creative Edge has been offering dance classes in Abbotsford since 1992.  At “The Edge” there are two large dance studios, with sprung floors, mirrors and a parent favorite, “one way mirrors” looking into the the dance studios. Below is a list and brief description of the types of dance classes we offer - from Ballet to hip hop!.

PRE-DANCE CLASSES

Pre-dance classes at Creative Edge are always fun, encompassing both pre-ballet and jazz forms of dance.

“We have been at Creative Edge for four and a half years and have enjoyed a variety of programs.  From Junior Preschool and Music Makers (with our beloved Miss Simone), Preschool with the very enthusiastic fun and loving Miss Heather and Miss Kiley right through to the dance program, our girls have loved and learned from each of them. 

We have thoroughly enjoyed the instruction offered in the ballet program taught by Miss Elizabeth.  Her grace, energy, enthusiasm and patience are evident in every class.  We found this very true in the predance program which introduces children at a young age (3 and 4) to various forms of dance with an emphasis in ballet.  The girls learned so much from Miss Elizabeth and her encouragement and love for the children has prompted my girls to continue with their ballet.  We will definitely be continuing with our lessons at Creative Edge!”

BALLET - LYRICAL

Our ballet program follows the Royal Academy of Dance curriculum. All ballet dance students are placed in RAD grade levels and ballet exams are available each year for those who are ready to progress onto the next grade level. Students also look forward to exciting performances at the Abbey Arts Centre In Abbotsford.

HOP HOP - JAZZ - TAP

Hip Hop dance lessons are very popular, incorporates the types of dance moves seen on today's music videos. No other formal dance lessons are required to enter our hip hop classes. Students also look forward to major performances at the Abbey Arts Centre right here in Abbotsford, BC.

Jazz and Tap classes are also offered for a broad range of ages, with an emphasis on technique, choreography and also using music the students really enjoy.

MUSICAL THEATRE

Our musical theatre class develops jazz skills and techniques with emphasis on choreography which is fun and entertaining. Dancers portray character and acting out through their dance. Students also look forward to entertaining performances at the Abbey Arts Centre

COMPETITIVE CLASSES

“Last year, when our daughter started competitive classes, she felt enormous pride that her team had received several gold medals.  The aspect of teamwork is very much emphasized, along with the sentiment that it is not about winning at the competitions, but about doing your best.  The camaraderie the children are taught toward the other competition dancers will serve them well as they grow, and transfer to other aspects of their lives.”

Mary-Anne Langstaff - Competitive Classes

Mary-Anne has been teaching competitive dance classes at Creative Edge since 2006, and she says she “loves working at "The Edge" because of the great organization, professionalism, and positive atmosphere!”

We have to say that Mary-Anne plays a tremendous part in creating this great atmosphere and is one of the reasons why we are affectionately known as “The Edge”.

She has a natural “edge” and her passion for dance shows through a genuine love for kids and a natural teaching ability. Mary-Anne is an “in demand” teacher as well as performer!

Mary-Anne has extensive performing experience which includes:

• Lead dancer in the 2010 Olympic Ceremonies alongside Michael Buble!
• Member of the “Felions” dance team for the BC Lions 
• Lead dancer in the music video "Lula" by 16mm that was debuted on Much Music;
• Dancer/promotions model for Voltage Entertainment
• Lead Dancer in "Shout"
• Show Dancer in "Here's Hollywood", both above were cast by Simon Griffiths
• Lead Dancer in The Miss Canada Teen Global Pageant '04, and a Top 10 finalist in The Miss Canada Teen Global Pageant '05

For over 16 years Mary-Anne has been trained in Jazz, Lyrical, Ballet, Tap, Hiphop, Acro, Musical Theatre, Modern, Clogging, Country, and Ballroom.
